James Tilton 68 of New Matamoras, Ohio, died Friday September 12, 2008, at his home. He was born on March 3, 1940 in Tampa, Florida, the son of James T. Tilton Sr. and Dortha Cunningham.
He was self employed owning and operating Tilton Amusement Co and Long Reach Catering. He was a 1957 graduate of Matamoras High School and he had attended Columbus Business University. He was a member of Matamoras Lodge No. 374 F & A.M. and Aladdin Shrine in Columbus, Ohio. He was also a member of the Outdoor Amusement Business Association and the Ohio Showmans Association.
He spent much time on Pugh Shows and the later Mid America Shows. James was a frequent visitor of CarnivalWarehouse.com and gave us much insight through his postings on the message board using the user name "Carnahan." He was a legend in the carnival industry and will be missed by many.
He is survived by two daughters: Tracey Cole (Kevin) of Vincent, Ohio and Gay Michelle Valentine (Larry) of New Matamoras, Ohio. Two sons James J. Tilton (Paige) and Jon Q. Tilton both of New Matamoras, Ohio. His mother also survives with 9 grandchildren; Two half sisters Jamie Tilton Wolfe and Patty, one half brother Tom Townsend and by his former wife Marilyn Ward Tilton. At his request he will be cremated and will have no services.
