A manager for Wade Shows is the latest Missouri Lottery-made millionaire. Thomas "Red" Cox travels most of the year for business, but he gets to spend a couple of months each winter at his home in New London, MO He was home enjoying his break when he discovered that he held the winning ticket for the Dec. 10 Lotto drawing worth $1.4 million.

"We cut these three cherry trees down over the last couple of days, and we were loading them up on a flatbed trailer," said Cox. "My brother Ronnie calls and said that Dad called him and said there was a winning ticket worth $1.4 million sold at the Shell station where we buy our Lottery tickets."

Cox immediately stopped what he was doing and went for a printout of the winning combination. Returning to his truck, he carefully looked over the tickets he had purchased for that drawing until he discovered a match on the last ticket.

"The very last ticket I,ve got," recalled Cox, "I start seeing the numbers, that, that, that. Then all six of them match, and I said, ,Oh, my God, I finally won.,"

Cox, 53, is a regular Lottery player and purchased several tickets for that drawing at Abel,s Quik Stop, 409 W. First St. in New London. He used Quick Pick to select the winning numbers: 5, 9, 21, 30, 27 and 41.

Cox chose to take the winnings in one lump-sum payment of $700,000. After taxes are withheld, he will receive a check for $497,000. Abel,s Quik Stop will receive a check for $14,000 for selling the winning ticket.

When asked what went through his mind when he found out he won, Cox simply answered "happiness." He doesn,t plan on many changes to his life, but was thrilled about the win. Cox said he planned to pay some bills and then put some money back for his children,s college. He has three children, including a daughter who will begin college next year.

Lotto is a pari-mutuel numbers game with jackpots that start at $1 million. Cox is the 183rd Lotto jackpot winner since the game began in 1986.
